SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) Tahj Eaddy scored 21 of his career-high 30 points in the first half to help Santa Clara open West Coast Conference play with a 68-56 win over San Diego on Thursday night.
The Broncos (9-6) never trailed and pulled away with 13 straight points to a 25-5 lead in the first half. Eaddy scored 11 points during that run and Santa Clara led 35-18 at halftime.
The Toreros (11-5) scored the first nine points of the second half to cut the deficit to eight, but that was as close as they would get until a rally got them within 62-56 in the final two minutes.
After San Diego's burst to start the second half, Santa Clara had two 7-0 runs to help build their lead back to 60-41 and held on after starters Trey Wertz and Josip Vrankic fouled out.
Keshawn Justice added 12 points for the Broncos and Josh Martin had 13 rebounds to go with eight points. Santa Clara won its sixth straight and eighth of the last nine.
