CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) Tre Gray scored 15 points and Irshaad Hunte added 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi routed Division III Howard Payne, 81-34 in its season opener Wednesday night.
Timothy Aguero collected a steal and scored on a fast break to score the first points and put the Yellow Jackets up, but Texas A&M-CC responded with a 16-0 run to put the game out of reach five minutes in. Grey hit a 3 with :13 seconds left to give the Islanders a 31-point lead, 43-12 at intermission.
Texas A&M-CC hit 29 of 67 shots from the field (43.3 percent) but was just 5 of 21 from beyond the arc and 0-9 from distance in the second half.
Kareem South had 13 points for the Islanders.
Howard Payne was held to 13 of 57 from the floor (22.8 percent), including 5 of 24 from deep. Talen Davis led the Yellow Jackets with seven points.
